First, it never stays this neat but here's to hoping . I'm so happy that the sewing room reorganization is done. I was spurred in part by a post on Crazy Mom Quilts and because I was getting frustrated with the disorganization. However, this time I tweaked a few things to help the flow of work.
On the left half of the room is my cutting table, serger thread, as well as pattern storage under the cutting table in the black milk crates.
Since I was playing a little with photoshop you get a freaky half panoramic view. The above picture is a more accurate representation of the size. It's our small 13'x7' sunroom which means two walls of windows, the door leading to the deck and the entrance to our dining room. Doesn't really leave me much wall space but I've made it work.
Towards the back is a drying rack for in progress projects and the ironing board. Here's a confession - I hate ironing but I don't mind ironing fabric. To the right of the ironing board is my serger, sewing machine and under the desk my starter machine I use as a backup and for when the kids want to sew.
Only a foot to the right of my desk is the door to the deck and on the wall to the right of the door is my yarn, knitting basket and sewing thread. That white trim is the frame of the dining room entrance.
I mentioned that I was not happy with the previous work flow of my sewing room but I tweaked three things that should help me get in and sewing with little hassle. First, these two stacking bins hold fabric waiting to be cut (top) and fabric waiting to be put away in the closet (bottom). I store my fabric a bedroom closet that my husband uses as his home office.
I also added those leftover cork tiles over the cutting area to hold patterns I'm using currently and keeping my cutting board clear.
Finally, the drying rack was repurposed to hold projects cut and waiting to be sewn as well as (blegh) some pants ready to be hemmed for shorty Mcshorty over here.
Although the real benefit to sewing in the teensy sunroom is that my view is directly towards the backyard and play area which means I can watch the older boys while I work and if I need to tell them something I just open the deck door.
Just a little creative space that keeps me happy.
what a gorgeous space! thanks so much for playing along.
ReplyDeletethanks for the inspiration!
