Tutorial from my son

I love watching kids emulate the behavior they pick up from their parents. Like my youngest son going up to the baby and removing the crayon from her hands saying, "not for baby." By her reaction the baby was not as thrilled as I, but it was the sweetest thing. Sometimes it's not so cute like the first time my oldest stubbed his toe and said, "oh crap!" and my husband just looked at me and said, "uh, huh. I wonder where he heard that?" What can I say, mommas get hurt too and sometimes I lose decorum.

The other day I found this drawing by my oldest. Front.




And back. For those of you not as firefighter obsessed I'll translate. It's a TV fire of course! Now the interesting part is the back of the picture. He has drawn the TV fire many times and I guess his little brother wanted a drawing as well. So what did he do? He broke down the drawing step by step for his little brother - his first tutorial. Sniff, I'm so proud.

Step 1 - Draw the TV
Step 2 - Draw the plug
Step 3 - Draw the cord
Step 4 - I can't remember that one.
Step 5 - Draw the flames of course.




Now you too can draw your own fire illustrations! As if that's not enough he'll throw in these other fine renditions like - "Fire with a gas can."




Or how about the classic, "Campfire rages out of control."




Let's not forget this momma's favorite, "Socket misuse causes fire."




Or the five year old's vision of what would happen if momma and daddy didn't tighten the grill's propane tank hose very well.




Finally, the culmination of all the fire fighter obsession - the housefire.




If you think this was just one day oooh boy. He wakes up and sits down to draw before breakfast. In the afternoon after playtime he picks up the crayons again and produces at least ten of these a day. Which is why I photograph them for documentation instead of keeping them all cataloged by cause of fire. One day he'll appreciate this.
